What kind of entertainment, if any, did YOU have at your daytime wedding?

We are considering a 10a-4p wedding in September. The site has a gorgeous, perfectly manicured flower garden w/gazebo and a lovely place for a reception directly next to it. It would be so beautiful to be able to see all of those flowers and color (there's a lake, too) from the huge picture windows in the reception hall so we want to do it in the daylight hours. One of my many questions is........how the heck to we provide entertainment during these hours? Will folks even care to dance? This is the only part that makes me not want a daytime affair 100%. Has anyone been to or hosted a daytime wedding where the entertainment was successful (or not)? What was done? A band......a dj.........a pianist......what?? Thank you! Oh.......and did people DANCE??? I don't want to bother people with silly music while they are not used to dancing..........

We are planning the same sort of thing, and to be honest once the service and pictures are taken, then you have had something to eat and the speeches there is not a lot of time left, we were thinking of just playing some music and letting people wander around and mingle and talk to each other.
Reply:It depends were you are from in the NY/NJ area we dance a weddings. It doesn't matter what time the wedding is.

I went to a daytime wedding in CT and the only people who danced were the NY people. Apparently CT Reception Hall have a rule that people are not allowed to dance until after the cake is served.
Reply:we all smoked crack (well, some people did), it was a blast. those people who smoked it got real paranoid and started fights with the other guests. finally, some vehicles got blowed up rill good and the army got called in to break it all up. yeah, what was the question? who u be?
Reply:my wedding was at 1130 and the reception was right after at noon. we had a dj. he was great. we had a lot of non-dancers at the wedding. those that danced had a great time!
Reply:I have been to 2 daytime weddings one had music and one didn't. The one with music was just a dj and yes peopel danced. I gues it would depend on your guests do you think they want to dance. The other wedding the couple did not want peopel to dance, so they just had nice soft jazz and love songs playing in the background. I had an engagment party where i just played a variety of love songs from frank sinatra and tony bennet and ella fitzgerald i love old time love songs. i didn't expect anyone to dance, but i thought it would be nice to have music in the background.
Reply:last daytime wedding we went to, the cutting of the cake was done as usual, and the bride and groom shared a dance, but that was it!

no one else danced, the function was set up more along the lines of a cocktail party with people wandering about the grounds and enjoying a string quartet playing softly in the background. lots of finger food, appetizers, champagne and wine along with a wide variety of desserts.

it was a lovely relaxing time for everyone, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely and several brides-to-be that were there have arranged their weddings along the same lines!

good luck!
Reply:My wedding wasn't like this but I went to one like that and they had a traditional Mexican trio first and then DJ just playing chill out tunes. It was great, no one complained. The other ideas I know that the couple had in mind for entertainment were: Opera singers, a mandolin playing quintet, marimba players and violins, but they ended up choosing the ones I mentioned before.

Music was loud enough for the rest of the wedding guests to chat and mingle but no one danced; if you aren't planning on dancing yourself it is a good choice.
