How to make a Valentine's Day Wedding not too sappy?

I'm getting married on Feb. 14th, 09 and I keep getting ideas that I think might be too sappy and cliche.

I don't want too many hearts around. I'm quite aware of the high cost of flowers at that time and my fiance and I are willing to deal with it, but I don't want too many flowers either. (My fiance and I are really set on V-Day.)

I still want people to know it's V-Day, but I don't want it plastered EVERYWHERE, if you know what I mean. I want people to realize it's a wedding too.

The reception place is fairly large. It can seat up to 700 people if completely full of chairs, but with the DJ Station, dance floor, tables, etc., it should be enough given the amount of people. Anyone have any ideas? I don't mind SOME hearts, and SOME roses as decoration, but what do I do for the rest of the decorations?

If you're getting married next year at that time, you should really take advantage of some of the valentine's sales or overstocks since it just passed. I was at Joann's (craft store) the other day and they had TONS of cute stuff. I'm not even doing mine on Valentine's %26amp; it was hard to pass it up. They had those little chinese takeout boxes which you can use for favors. They also had a really cute fluffy heart pillow that said love in red with a red satin bow for hanging. I'm doing nothing with hearts but I was tempted to find a way to hang it over my cake.

Here's a whole section on that from theknot.com

Reply:Just think SOPHISTICATION and everything will fall into place. Even thou it is Valentine's Day it won't be sappy if you keep in mind SOPHISTICATION. It is a very grown up day and I think the hearts and roses are a nice sophisticated touch. Maybe heart confetti on the tables and a single or double red rose in a bud vase on each table. Other than that you don't have to have anything valentines related. Have whatever you want ~ NOT RELATED TO VALENTINE"S DAY. It is your wedding ~ have what you want ~ pretend it isn't Valentines' Day and maybe you can think NON-VALENTINES
Reply:I'm not sure that's possible.
Reply:hi iam getting married on valentines day 09 as well my theme colours are black and white iam not having any hearts or roses i think people will still no that it is valintines day even if you dont have this stuff just go for what you want good luck
Reply:Don't use pink or red or any other V-day colours. The no hearts idea is good too. That is cliche and people would expect it.

I bought these off eBay, don't know if they would suit you but have a look anyway:

I would use lots of candles, they will be cheap but gorgeous decorations. Look on ebay too, you can get so many decoration ideas off there. Look under this:
