Wedding Pumpkins or NOT????

Me and my mom was going over wedding plans and we thought it would be extremely cute to use small pumpkins(gords and such) as the centerpieces at my wedding reception (fall of 08) instead of spending 1000 of more dollars on flowers....

picture this....

in the middle of the table,,,

a small pumpkin surrounded by fall leaves (fake) with some small pine cones and small yellow candles

cute or not??

any more ideas???

Wedding Pumpkins or NOT????
How about a cornucopia or horn of plenty? It is usually a curved horn (usually wicker or straw) overflowing with fruit, pumpkins, acorns and leaves that is used as a decorative motif emblematic of abundance (like your love for each other - I love symbolism). You don't have to use fruit, but jack-b-little pumpkins or gourds would look cute. You can buy the horns pretty cheap ($2 or $3 for a moderate sized one) at the Craft Store.

On a side note, be very careful with pinecones. I have relatives who are actually allergic to them.
Reply:id say no to pine cones. but the pumpkin idea could be could as long as you do it right. you want to make sure it doesnt look like you shopped at big lots for the center pieces
Reply:great Idea!

and a harvest color candle in the Center
Reply:Just saying "wedding pumpkins" makes me chuckle a little.

I think you're on to something good, but pumpkins %26amp; pinecones don't seem so wedding-ish to me - seems more like Thanksgiving.

What about bowls with fresh fall fruit %26amp;fall leaves? (see link) If the bowl has a base, you could tie a beautiful cream colored bow around the base. Another idea is to use a hurricane with a pillar candle and surround the base with fall leaves.
Reply:You might want to use some flowers. Take a look at this pumpkin centerpiece. It has the couples initials carved into it with a ring of flowers and leaves at the base. The small pine cones would make a nice touch (just don't get the potpourri scented ones).

At Walmart, they have tealight holders at cheap prices. You could wrap the outer part of the glass with a sheer gold fabric for more color. You might want to also think about linens to bring even more color into the reception room.

Here are some more ideas:

(Mini pumpkins)

(Table linen that would go well with fall colors)

Reply:I think that would look cute but heres another idea. Get smaller orange pumpkins and gut them. Spray them with dutch boy clear enamel to make them shiny. Then put a candle in them, or put flowers out the top. I think both of those ideas would look great
Reply:co-workers wedding last october - they used large pumpkins as the centerpiece and drilled holes into the side to create the table number along with lighting them from inside. i thought it was great! if i were you i'd also be putting a lot of pumpkin items on the dessert list...
Reply:I think it will be very cute since its a fall wedding any other season not so much.
Reply:no!!! if u want to make it fall than why not get some inexpensive flowers, like potted mums and daisys, i think it will be too plain with no flowers at all. i think pumpkins and fake leaves looks cheap and barron in my opinion. i think u should consider maybe having a nice tall plant. dont rule off flowers entirely, at least meet with a florist, discuss ur ideas and wait for her budget before u totally nix flowers.

i like the other peopels suggestions of hallowing out the pumkin and putting candles as well as having a few flowers, incorporate long branches, twigs %26amp; berries as well!
Reply:I like it. Also, my girlfriend had pumpkins for centerpieces.

She hollowed out the center (cut a hole in the top and cleaned out the inside like if you were going to carve it). She bought some inexpensive vases (at the dollar store) and then just put a bunch of fall-looking flowers in each pumpkin "vase"....looked beautiful!
Reply:I think gourds and small pumpkins make lovely table decorations. It's seasonal, colorful and inexpensive. Congrats!
Reply:i think that's a very cute idea. then the guests can take the pumpkin home as a keepsake. (or at least the children can take one home--the adults have the other keepsakes that the kids usually don't care about.)

my friend used all fall colors and fall foliage for his wedding and it worked very well. the bride's maid dress was a chocolatey brown, and the mother's wore deep golden yellow. it turned out beautiful.
Reply:FANTASTIC!! Very creative, and don't restrict it to one....use several small gourds per table, and mix it up! I think it'd be really cute!
Reply:How about a wicker tray, a big fat cream colored candle in the middle, surrounded by little pumpkins/gourds? I don't like the idea of fake leaves.
Reply:I like the idea, personally.
Reply:You could do the tried and true pumpkin centerpeices:

EDIT: My cousin had a bridal shower this past weekend and she decorated the tables with real pumpkins - spray painted silver! The whole thing except for the stem was painted and she used groups of 3 with the largest on a silver platter with silk fall leaves around it and raised up with a bowl under the platter. It looked extremely classy and easy! I imagine you could use any color or combination of colors.
Reply:In order for it to be visually pleasing, you're going to need something in the center....

Maybe if you a small/medium sized pumpkin, with a few smaller pumpkins maybe some gourds and the leaves on some kind of a glass plate to keep it more centered. Work in ODD numbers... three pumpkins versus four... our eyes find odd numbers more pleasant :)
Reply:Those are great ideas. I like Cornucopia center pieces. I also like to include some various nuts like acorns and chestnuts in them. There are many varieties of fall flowers like mums and marigolds that have those fall colors of gold and Orange and reds. It sounds beautiful.
Reply:its ADORABLE

my wedding is next sat (the 20th) and i wish i had thought of that!!
Reply:Martha Stewart had something on her website on how to make glitter pumpkins. I think those would look really nice on your table.

Reply:I love the idea. I saw something like this at Micheal's Craft store (only the pumpkins were fake) they had the tops cut out and used the pumpkins as vase. It had fall colored leaves, and Flowers in it. It was so beautiful. Plus your guest can take the center piece home and use it thought the Holiday's.

Best wishes and good luck in planning your special day!
Reply:so cute and unique you might want try to stay way from scented pine cones, a lot of people may not like the smell because sometimes the cinnamon is to potent, or someone could be allergic or sensitive sinuses and then you have sneezing guests.
Reply:I love the idea. Fall is my favorite season, and I love decorating in fall colors, even or weddings. You could also use pumpkins as vases.
Reply:I think that's a good idea...and original too. And I agree that spending 1000 or more dollars on flowers is sickening.

If this is what you decide, start watching for sales since we're so close to Halloween. You'll probably be able to save even more money!

Happy planning!
Reply:CUTE! I got married last October and incorporated gourds and pumpkins into my centerpieces. They were adorable, i got alot of compliments, and people took them home for Halloween decor. There are some beautiful gourds and pumpkins and some very interesting colorful ones. We used pumpkins, gourds, baby's breath, and candles and it was really neat. you can also hollow out the little pumpkins and stuff candles in the holes.
Reply:Sounds very pleasing. you could try wal-mart, and Michale's for your decorations.or you could use real leaves that would be great.
Reply:I think that will look cute!

Gives a few examples of Fall centerpieces.
Reply:I think it sounds adorable!
Reply:Why not add some small pots of Mums. Love the fall theme but will it match all your other wedding decor? You dont want people to think that they are at a harvest festival rather than a wedding reception.
Reply:I'm cool with the pumpkins and he goards and the candles, fake leaves on a table will just look like fake leaves and the longer the guests sit there the more they will look like fake leaves, hope u see where I'm going here. Indian corn :)
Reply:Not unless you are using them in your bra!
