Ever set up your reception hall BEFORE your wedding just so u can see how its gonna look?

I'm not talking about setting up EVERYTHING like linens and flowers just setting up where the tables are going to be, how many chairs are a comfortable fit at each table, where the head table, cake table, gift table, where the dj and dance floor are going to be etc. I have discussed renting the venue for like 2 hours with the owner just so I can do this. Is this a good idea or am I being neurotic?I just want everything to be perfect.

It sounds fine to me..especially if you're not sure about the space...things always look bigger until you start putting things in place and then it seems to shrink...Go ahead and draw out the way you think you might want it in two or three different ways...then when you get there you won't just be pulling chairs all over the place...you'll have a plan...

You can also get a measuring tape and just go over and measure the room (width, length and any extra space they may have like a stage or something if available) and the tables to see how many tables you're going to need... round tables give you a lot of space while still seating your guest...once you measure the tables( the rectangular and round) you'll be using for the food...you can multiply it and use your measurements around the room for all your other table settings...like your bride table, groom's table and drink table...

I think it is a wonderful idea...because one can never be too sure about the way things will look until you see it set up that way...you want to be sure you have electrical plugs where you need them...if you have a DJ or a punch fountain...extra lights around the room, and etc. You also want your food tables in the right place for your servers convenience...to the kitchen area... you will want to put a gift table in a vantage point for your guest to see easily...usually around the door of entrance.

I hope this has given you a little insight and help...I wish you the best of luck...by planning ahead you cut the risk of not having things organized by 1/2. You go girl...take all the extra steps ahead of time and you'll have less to worry about that special "wedding day"... congratulations....HH
Reply:My site has already set the arrangements on paper of how the tables will be set and what will be where. We will be setting the tables the day of the wedding. I honestly don't care much about the appearance of the reception, just the attendance of family and friends. (not anymore, that is. I think it will look nice, but I am not going to freak out if it doesn't match what I envisioned.)
Reply:If it doesn't cost a whole lot to rent those couple of hours, I say do, especially if you are a perfectionist. You won't be able to sleep at night if you don't!
Reply:if it's going to cost more than $200 then don't do it, work with the owner who should be able to answer most of your questions over the phone without charging you extra
