More wedding ideas please??? You guys are great!!?

Hey guys, I am loving this Yahoo Answers for wedding ideas. I feel bad for people who did not have such a luxury twenty years ago getting married. Anyway, my wedding will be in my hometown of Huntington, West Virginia at an old village that takes you back to the way of life in the 1800s. The wedding and reception will be in a beautiful log church and then a big log banquet hall. My flowers, roses, and my colors, red and white. I love the idea that some people had for drinking tea from mason jars, using red and white napkins in baskets to hold biscuits and other bread. I do want it to go along with the old-fashioned 1800s theme, but I don't want to go overboard with the whole country-theme. In other words, no hay bails or overalls, lol. Can you guys suggest some elegant, old-fashioned ideas for centerpieces/decorations? I was thinking that each centerpiece does not have to be the same, right?

Hang the mason jars from the ceiling beams at varying hieghts with fishing line and have votive candles lit.

Have photos of your relatives from that time period on their wedding day displayed at the entrance

Have an old fashioned photo studio set up with a photographer who can take pics of the guests on tin, leave items such as parasols, hats boas etc for them to have fun with it.

Have oil lamps on the tables surrounded by the roses as centeropieces
Reply:how about those TIN flower-watering pitchers filled with daisies...........maybe something with pussy-willows, I love them.
Reply:For centerpieces, have baskets filled with wildflowers. Each basket and the exact arrangement of flowers will be different, but they will be close enough to still have a sense of unity.
Reply:their is nothing wrong with a few square bails of hay outside for decor.

You could also get a old time bike with a basket on the front with flowers in it. Like on David's Bridal website, very old time %26amp; elegant.
Reply:maybe do the centerpeices in bigger mason jars or even galvanized pails. you could alternate them also. you could leave on a horse and buggy! That would go with it and be something your guests would remember.
Reply:First of all, and old-fashioned wedding and a country wedding aren't necessarily the same thing. Having said that, I think what you have going on so far sounds great.

I think for centerpieces, you could have different containers on each table. Some ideas: traditional vases, water pitchers, oil lamps, and any other unusual containers you might find at yard sales flea markets, antique stores, etc.

And you don't necessarily have to buy them all either. You could ask family, relatives, and friends if they have any unusual containers they could lend to you for the wedding.
Reply:What about one of those old fashioned bath basin with a pitcher and place some flowers on it. Underneath you can place a doilley! I can;t think of anything more old fashioned like that.

You can find those bath basin-pitcher sets in Cracker Barrel or antique stores. I don;t know what the proper term is for them, but you get the idea, ...

Good luck
Reply:how about putting flowers in pitchers? Especially if you can find some of the older looking enameled ones. If not for your centerpieces, place them around the room in various spots - food table, bar, ladies restrooms, etc.

I know that Huntington has a wonderful bakery (I think my husband's cousin works there!) that could make cookies for you as favors, then tie them in the same checked fabric of your basket liners.

Make use of the local library and historical society to see if any pictures of weddings or banquets from the time are available that may give you ideas for something more elegant keeping with the time period.

Here's a link to a website I hope may work for you:
Reply:Vegas Baby, Vegas! Cheap and Fun.
Reply:in many bridal mags ,people are using a mixture of fruits and flowers as centerpieces. since you are using red and white you can use red apples, pomegranates , or red plums mixed with the red and white flowers as a centerpiece.
Reply:if some people are non achohlic then use sparkling apple cider for the toast and one in kaui or maui on the beach
Reply:How about parasols for the bridesmaids?

Reply:Hey! I'm also from Huntington, WV and I attended a wedding at Heritage Farm. It's been a few years but it was nice. If your wedding is in the summer why not use some fresh summer flowers, maybe even wild flowers? You could always pick some yourself and put them in mason jars with water. If you don't want to go to that extreme then maybe some red %26amp; white roses in simple vases. You could alternate flowers with candles for something different.
Reply:I think it will look better if they are different. It you have old lace hanky's they could go under your centre pieces with the lace sticking out. (Maybe your grandma would have those.) Does someone in your family have a silver coffee service? That could be filled from a regular pot. I would have brides maids carry wild flower too, or have them in the hair. Use of ribbon like streamers would be pretty with big bows instead of bells and such. Put red table cloth down and then put lace over top.
