How much is the average wedding now days?

My finace and i are getting married a year from now in houston, Texas and cant really agree on a reasonable cost for the wedding. We plan on sending out about 200 invitatiions and want to have it in the catholic church....as for reception details were unsure of and still wanna do some research on djs bands catering cakes etc..my finace says for instance ok were gonna spend 7000 dollars (which to me sounds like its not nearly enough for all of the things that are the must haves at weddings like cake food flowers etc....im not referring to chocolate fountians ice sculptors or all the other little things that are added extras, all i really want is flowers and candle center pieces at the reception as my decor..) I told my fiance that before we set some budget whether it be 7000 dollars or 20000 dollars we need to do some shopping around to get more realistic prices of things and from there decidred on an appropriate budget. So just how much should we be prepared to spend?

How much is the average wedding now days?
If you don't want all of the bells and whistles...then why spend load of money that you can use elsewhere.

Believe you me...you will regret blowing it all on just the one day!

I have seen new married couples blow 20,000 -25,000 that they could have used on a down payment for a home. Goes a lot further and makes more sense 10 years down the road!

You have to decide how elaborate you want the wedding. Do you really want 200 people? What is your wedding theme? Can you do something a little less extravagant?

You absolutely need to shop around, cutting costs at every avenue.

As a florist, I can tell you that there are florists that will rent you silk flowers. They are still as pretty...you can't even tell if their real or not until you touch them, but they are not nearly as expensive and you are not throwing your money into a perishable item. I have even done weddings where the silk arrangements at the reception were given as bridesmaids gifts...giving you a 2 for 1!

I don't know where you live, but there are florists on ebay and other areas that will do your flowers for you and ship them to you. Everything is taken care of...looks great and is a much more inexpensive way to go than to your local florist.

I would be happy to help you with any arrangements if you want to buy rather than rent the flowers....just let me know. As note, I do this for my enjoyment...not for profit, so I will not rip you off like some other people will.

im assuming my wedding will be around $13,500
Reply:I would say about 12000-15000.
Reply:$15,000-that is what mine is going to be about!

wedding aren't cheap!! especially if you have to pay for it by yourself-well good luck and congratulations!!
Reply:Weddings are so expensive these days. My fiance just finished paying about $50,000...and that's just for the wedding, not including the upgrade of my beautiful diamond ring.
Reply:I would say between $20000 - $25000. I'm getting married soon and a lot of couples are doing DIY (do it yourself) projects. Vendors can get really expensive and bogus so watch out. Micheals is a really good place to go. But really do some shopping. If you live in the Southern California area GO TO DOWNTOWN LA. Good Luck!
Reply:my wedding is going to have about 150 people and just food, drinks and the place is costing us 15,000. no flowers, dresses, decorations invitations, photographer, videographer, and sooo much more!
Reply:$7000 divided by 200 people is only $35 per person, and this doesn't take into account the cost of invitations, wedding gown, or any of the many other extras that go along with a traditional wedding.

You certainly CAN throw a wedding for $7000, but you'll need to be flexible about what you'll be able to offer.

We're getting married in St Thomas, and hoping to keep the costs to under $10,000 for about 15 of us, and we are then having a reception at home for about 200, and that reception will cost about $7000 (plus cake and dj), but we're having a clam bake at a picnic grove.
Reply:If I were you, unless you are seriously wealthy, I would keep it a lot smaller than 200 people. You two will be the ones stuck with the bill. We are going to have approx. 50 people (close friends and fam) and it will be running us upwards of about 7-8,000. It also depends on the place. We have seen places wanting to charge us 13,000 for 50 people. A lot of places will include your cake, DJ, photographer/videographer, etc. Try to find a package deal, if you can. Good luck and congrats!!
Reply:Well, I've been planning for my wedding and the budget was $5,000 (set by my parents) so it has been really hard and NOW the cost is closer to $10,000. We are having a really nice reception at a golf club and that takes up the majority of the cost- feeding everyone! So just plan for that, I think it's like close to $40 a person where we're having it, but you want people to remember your wedding having good food. I think $10,000 cuts it a little close, but its what I have to do now so I'd say from $10,000-$15,000 is ok for a really nice, but not the most elegant wedding/reception. If there are any people you do not absolutely have to invite, then don't invite b/c that will bring the cost down.
Reply:alot...
Reply:$7000 is just what my food costed, and we did it the cheapest way possible. you could do a wedding on that, you just need to prioritize what you want to spend on what. shopping around first is definitly the best.

my total was about $20,000 give or take.for about 170 people. that was last year and we paid for it our selfs.
