Reception venue in Akron, OH?

I am looking for a wedding reception venue in Akron, OH or close by that is on the inexpensive side, but nice. I need to hold about 200 people and prefer catering on site but it's not a necessity. Thanks! If you have any suggestions for vendors for flowers, cakes, caterers, dj's, limos, etc near Akron, let me know those as well. Thanks!

Reception venue in Akron, OH?
I´m planning my wedding in Canton, OH, which isn´t too far away, so let me share my resources with you.

In Massillon:

Perry Heights Party Centre Hall Inc

phpch.com

This place was really nice, it´s in a weird spot, Ithought, right along a pretty big road, but once you get off the road, the place is really nice...the inside has perfect lighting, and the people seemed very nice. We looked at the buffet menu, which was 12.95 per person. It included one of each: meat, pasta, potato, toss salad or hot veggies, hors d´oeuvre, rolls and rye bread and coffee. They had an okay selection of food, not too many choices, but it was pretty nice. Also, they had a DJ that came with the rental, it was 495.00 to rent the hall, and than includes 2 hrs of the DJ, and each hour afterwards was 100.00. I was always told to watch out for places which have DJs included, that they´re not as good as freelancers, but I can´t say that from experience.

Navarre: This is further away from Akron, perhaps too far, but it was an interesting place. They are located out in the country, have an onsite lake, that includes a swan paddle boat which you can use, and the inside is also very nice there. The lady we met, however, was a little snooty about her place. It´s called Lakeside Center. They have a much better food choice, including themed meals, and I believe they were the ones who told us that we can request something that´s not on the menu, the cooks will try the recipe you give them, and if they think it´s manageable, will serve it. I like that you could specialize the menu. Another good thing is that this ´hall is on the lady´s property, her house is just on the other side of some trees and shrubs, and she has a bride´s room which is available to you on your wedding day. There´s a nice dock on the lake that you can hold the ceremony on, if you like, and that´s when her room comes in handy. She´s there to help with everything you need on your wedding day, getting dressed, if you forgot hairspray, etc it is her house so she can just run and get you some. I thought it was a neat idea. However, she´s a little more pricey. For a one meat buffet, it´s 19.00 a person, which includes rolls, gourmet coffee and hot tea, and 3 of the following 4: potato, pasta, veggie, or salad...like I said, there is a much bigger selection here than the above place. Also, it has an indoor AND outdoor setting for the food. Check out her website...www.lakesidecenterbanquet.com

Canton: Chateau Michele

This place is located within a community...so there are houses all around. It´s not quite as elegant as the other places, but the people were very friendly. It reminded me of a victorian house, with the grand staircase, a big banquet room, etc. Prices weren´t bad, one meat buffet is 12.95, add a dollar for 2 and 3 meats... nice choice of sides, somewhere in between the above 2 places. The hall rental is 350.00, which includes 4 hrs, linen and skriting, china, centerpieces, cutting and serving of cake and set up and clean up. There was also the wedding package, which is 3224.00, and included 2 meat buffet for 120-150 guests, beer pop and wine beverage service with bartender and security for 3.5 hours (a lot of other places in the area require you to find a security guard if serving alcohol), and all of the amenities I listed. You can visit this at chateaumichele.com

I believe this place is in Lakemore... it´s called Spring Lake Party Center... I didn´t visit this place but my cousin had a beautiful wedding there last winter. She told me that hers was 17.95/ plate, that the cost paid for food and the service, and you got to pick the food from a list...which I don´t know how many choices there are, but I can tell you it´s near a lake, and my grandparents and my mom both said that it was the prettiest wedding they´d been to...and my cousin said the lady was supereasy to work with, very helpful, and that they took care of decorating and everything. I know that´s the right name, so maybe you could find it online...unfortunately I don´t have any other info on it.

Other places in Canton include Foltz Community Center, which is in East Canton that is just a hall and rents for 700.00, McKinley planetarium, which we looked into but only holds about 125-150 people, but rents for 100/hour for the auditorium, or for the whole building is 500/first hour, and 100 for each hour afterwards. That means you could have a personal planetarium show, as long as the guy who runs it is available, and with enough notice, shouldn´t be a problem.

Now for my favorite, in Downtown Canton, is the McKinley Center. This is where we decided to hold our reception. It´s actually a retirement home, but has a little restaurant inside, and a beautiful atrium which is available. You can visit acentreplace.com to see pics. It´s gorgeous inside, with plants and old fashioned lamp posts (think Narnia!) and something else I love about it is that you get to go in a few months before the wedding and actually taste the food to make your choices for the dinner. I believe it´s 14.95/plate, they have centerpieces available for a couple dollars, they have a mini stage for the DJ, all in all it´s just a very nice setting. I highly recommend it.

As for DJs in the area, again this is all canton area, but they´re not too far away...I recommend Digital DJ´s...they´re by far the cheapest we could find, and with an excellent reputation. They were at a few friends weddings and did great jobs. You pay a flat rate, I believe it´s 500, pay half when you book them, and they block off the whole day for you, they´ll give you a list of some examples of songs, talk through everything with you, and you go home, choose your genre of music, make requests, etc and they bring all the equipment, get it set up, they have a lighting system and fogger and bubbles, have request cards for your guests, handle all announcements and everything...we met with him at the beginning of our planning experience and he was also very helpful in reminding us of other things we needed to do and think about. He gave us his number and email and is very good at getting back to us with any questions we have, etc. Their number is 330 327 2816. oh...here´s a website...mydigitaldjs.com

The only other thing I can tell you is that Canton Chair Rental is a great place to rent chairs, tables, linens, etc if you don´t choose a place that has it already. you can find them online at cantonchairrental.com.

I know these aren´t in Akron, but they´re close, and I had all the info, so I hope I helped a little. Congratulations and good luck!
Reply:i too am running into this problem. Im getting married in Stow Ohio. The cheapest nicest place I have found so far is 18.95 per plate. I have a friend of mine as well that has a planning business with photo and video he is resonably priced too. Please email me and maybe we can compare notes! Good luck to you. Also there is a bridal show at the sheriton in C. Falls feb 17th. maybe that will help

this is a nice one I think.

Country Clubs are really nice generally, can offer a good rate and inclusive. Or check at your favorite local restaurant, sometimes you can rent them out and have the whole thing there.

sites like theknot.com can sometimes offer good things.

I had my wedding at the cleveland museum of natural history which was wonderful. If cleveland is too far, try museums in akron. It's not as much as you would think to rent a museum or a botanical gardens.

If you need a really good photographer:

They do great work. Its a husband and wife team and you get both for the price of one. So two angles on everything. Nice people too! They did great work, and a lot better price than a lot of them out there.

For a DJ do not use a positive spin DJ. They almost ruined my wedding. They came late, got so drunk she was falling over... what a mess.
