I am having a Marine Corps wedding. Any suggestions on how to decorate for the reception?(mostly centerpieces)

I was thinking about using canteens or amo boxes to put flowers in.

You can find canteens and amo boxes at your local army supply place. I love the center piece idea.. totally unique. :)
Reply:That sounds really cute. Swords?
Reply:I like the wine idea! but if you have tables of 10 ppl it's going to be hard to split up one bottle of wine? How about incorporating the Gold, Blue, and Scarlet? Do gold bowls filled with water, have a few blue floating candles (scented are nice you'll light them later and it'll take you back to your day) and some red Gerber Daisy's. Let those float in the water. the bowls would be the most expensive thing and you could find a rental store and rent them instead. You could put mirror tiles from a hobby/craft store under the bowls with a few extra tea lights so when you dim the lights for dancing the mirror will reflect and sparkle.

It's a suggestion anyway. My fiance was in the Army, in Iraq for a total of 2 years, and he gets sick at the site of camouflage or anything too Army (he HATES sand too of course) as proud as he is that he's served. So IDK if canteens or amo boxes would be such a good idea. If it's what you want though use the marine colors in your flowers so it matches with the vase you've chosen to hold them. I think that would work out fine! But canteens with pink or orange flowers may not make sense to a lot of people.

Sorry if I wasn't much help :( Congratulations!

This site says:

The scarlet and gold surrounding the emblem are the official Marine Corps colors. These in turn are enclosed by Navy blue and gold signifying the Marine Corps as an integral part of the naval team.

I suggest skipping the canteens and ammo boxes, please. I suggest you use the colors of the Marine Corps emblem. I suggest you use the colors of scarlet, gold and navy blue. I think you should speak with a professional florist . . . and ask him/her for suggestions. He/she will most likely have photos to show you that will give you ideas. (Even if you decide to DIY and not hire the professional, you still will have seen the photos . . . and will have gotten some ideas from them.)

Don't forget to cut the wedding cake with a saber or sword!

Please check out site above. There are ways to honor the military . . . without canteens or ammo. Please consider them. Thanks.

And remember! NO boutonniere is to be worn with the military uniform. No bouts when in uniform. Don't forget.

It says: The Marines' Hymn is the official hymn of the United States Marine Corps.

Why not have it played as you and groom enter the reception hall?
Reply:Hi. I would skip the canteens and amo boxes.

Look at the colors....scarlet, blue, gold.

Why not use some gold containers like these 7-1/2 inch tall "mint julep cups."

These containers are really nice looking and look great with flowers! Use some scarlet colored flowers (gerbera daisies or roses). I think that would look nice. There are no true navy blue colored flowers, so I would stick with the scarlet color as best you can.

Again, I would skip the canteens and amo boxes and go with a little more elegant look, but still keeping within the colors of the Marine Corps.

PS: If this is your fiance, or perhaps you are the Marine, I thank him (or you) for his/your service to our country.
Reply:Colors-Blue,white and gold. How about bottles of wine with curly ribbon of those color tied on them. And a thank-you to you guests. Then you won't have to find something to do with them when the reception is done!
Reply:Is he wearing his dress blues?
Reply:I wholeheartedly agree with those who say skip the ammo/canteen and run with the Marine Corp colors. When I think marines I think class, dignity...I think the ammo and canteen idea kid of cheapens it. Just my opinion.
Reply:You should have some how little ships floating in water, i think the canteen or amo box with flowers would look a bit tacky...
Reply:Amo boxes sound like an awesome idea.
Reply:I wouldn't. I would just have elegant centerpieces. I wouldn't make the Marine Corps the theme of the wedding. It is going to be a formal wedding so I would keep the reception formal as well. Candles and flowers for centerpieces. There's nothing formal about amo boxes or canteens.
