What do you think of this wedding reception table centerpiece idea?

Ok, unique blown glass vases in pretty greens and transparent colors. They would have red dirt from Alabama (my home state) layered with sands from Nevada (his home state) filled to the top, then there would be some curly willow stuck in with jewelry wire twisted around all the branches with pretty beads in the colors of the wedding stringed onto the wire. There would also be sagebrush stuck in the dirt/sand inside the vase. The vase itself would be sitting inside a shallow, wide bowl (but not too big for the table) with a few floating candles, flower petals, and silver glitter tossed in. Around that there would be magnolia leaves pinned under the shallow bowl to sort of frame it out.

What do you think??? Could I do it myself with my bridesmaid's help?

What do you think of this wedding reception table centerpiece idea?
I like the idea. The only thing I would add is a little card on the table describing the symbolism with the dirt and sand!
Reply:i think you should make a trial one and see if you can actually do it and what it looks like in real life....then go from there....or if you want you could hire someone to do a trial for you and see what it looks like and have them make it for you....all the details sounds really nice...centerpieces in ball room setting set the whole scene and if they are put together and very extarvagant and elegant it will be a showstopper (besides you)..lol
Reply:Either that, or you could weave a candleholder from toilet paper and broom straws.

Seriosly, it sound perfectly nice but trust me - nobody is going to notice the centerpieces or their symbolism. You'll save time %26amp; effort if you get some appropriately-sized table ornaments at Kmart, and nobody will notice the difference. People are at the receptiion to enjoy the company, not to evaluate the decor.
Reply:I think it's a cute idea. I think you should be able to do it with help from your bridesmaids. I like the fact that you have dirt from your homestate and his, it makes it feel like you two are joining together. very cute idea
Reply:That sounds brilliant! And yes, as long as you know what you are doing and try it in advance, you and your bridesmais should be able to do it.
Reply:Love the idea. I think its very creative to have sand/dirt form your home states. I never would have thought of something like that. Very creative
Reply:I think you should make a prototype first, it sounds like there is a LOT going on in that centerpiece.
Reply:I was sold with just the glass-blown vases and the sand/willow branches.

It sounds like something you and your bridesmaids could make, provided you don't have to make *too* many of them. I would be sure to make a mock-up well in advance of the wedding so that you can be sure of what it's going to look like. I guess the vases are pretty small if you're setting them in the middle of bowls with candles and stuff? It sounds like it might be getting a little overdone once it gets to that point if the vases are not very small, so the mock-up would help you decide for sure whether or not you want to go that extra mile. I personally think that a large-enough vase with the sand, willow and sagebrush would be enough. =)

You sound like you're much more creative than the common bride!!
