I'm planning my wedding reception does this seem pricey?

I got a price from a catering company, the hall is included in the price so are taxes and grutuities (wrong spelling), as far as I know so is the DJ. For a buffett, with a 6 hour open bar, a table of fresh fruits and vegetables including dip and punch, wine and a sweets table with tea and coffee is $65 a person, so they told me it would be $6500.00 for a hundred guests.

THE BUFFET MENU IS:

Buffet #4 (Hot %26amp; Cold) (min. 50 people)

Linen, China %26amp; Silverware

Assorted Bread, Rolls and Butter

Garden Salad with Dressing

Caesar Salad

Macaroni Salad

Potato Salad

Coleslaw

Beans Salad

Steamed Mussels

Cold Meat Platters

(Black Forest Ham, Smoked Meat, Turkey %26amp; Salami)

Assorted Pastries

Hot Items

Roast Sirloin of Beef

Tortellini Alfredo

Roast Potatoes

Seasonal Vegetables

Tea and Coffee

The cake and decorations could have been included but my Grandmother makes wedding cakes, and flower arrangements, and I know alot of ppl who want to help decorate. What do you think???

This doesn't sound bad at all. Please get everything in wriitng (IF the DJ is included or not) I don't know where you are but, this is a lot for that price point. Good Luck!

I just noticed you live in Canada. I live in Medicine Hat here is a price comparison for you. the meat platters you have cost $85.00 a platter for 25 people as did the veggie platters and the pasteries were $54.00 for 25 people where I wentThe roast dinner was 19.99 per person Thats almost 3000 without the bar, wine, room fee, bevarages and sweet table. You got a good deal book quick! Also you can google Medicine Hat Lodge (not where I went but, you can see what their catering costs online just to give you a better idea of what some canadian prices are I don't know of any others with the prices online)
Reply:That sounds like a steal! Can you ask to talk to other couples who have been married there as references?
Reply:Sounds OK to me.
Reply:Our daughter got married last year in Ontario, Canada. I think the price you are saying is reasonable. You mentioned that it included an open bar for 6 hours, plus wine, and the cost of the room. I think it is a very reasonable rate. Congratulations!
Reply:It sounds good but you absolutely have to sample some of their food. It might be really cheap and gross. It might be just fine but you don't want to pay for terrible food. See if they have references or better yet ask a question here with the name of the place and see if anyone has been to a reception there. Absolutely meet the dj and make sure his style is suitable for your guests.
Reply:my god what more do you want......the taj mahal too
Reply:Well if you need to be on a budget you do not nessicarily have to go that far, you can have a reception at a freinds house, or find some where cheaper
Reply:It sounds to me like that's a really good deal, considering it also includes the open bar. Make sure you sample the food beforehand, though--you want to make sure it's yummy! Congratulations!!
Reply:I think that's pretty pricey. Don't forget, you still have to pay for other things, like a gown, and the flowers, and decorations, and invitations, photography, and lots of other things. Don't be quick to assume that your friends and family will pay for things, even if they do help you to put things together.

Also, we paid for a catered meal for our daugher. That did NOT include the DJ, nor the booze, nor the bartenders.
Reply:congratulations! your list sounds very reasonable to me.
Reply:that is pretty standard for a caterer, especially if it includes the open bar, dj, taxes and gratuitie. Does that also include the locations, linens, tableware? Many caterers charge $30-$50 per person without providing ANY of the above mentioned items. A 6 hour open bar itself could cost you $1500 - $2000 for 100 people.
