Looking for ideas for wedding reception centerpieces for long banquet tables...?
First off, Congratulations ... and good for you for selecting something lovely and simple instead of some huge hotel banquet room. They're nice, but so impersonal.

Plain white table cloths, paper is okay, but cloth is better. It usually runs about $4 a tablecloth to rent them. If you can swing it, I would. Then sew a table runner of red/white gingham that will go the length of the table , but is only 1 foot wide. Buy some small galvanized watering cans (TSC Farm store has them) or small galvanized buckets and put in white daisies or better yet... beautiful golden sunflowers. Keep them low... not more than 12". You need some other color to break up the red and white and yellow is perfect for that. Or if you really want inexpensive; get some old, green glass Ball canning jars and put the flowers in there and tie some raffia around the neck of the jar. Decorate everywhere with small white, twinkly Christmas lights. .. and I mean everywhere. Buy them this winter after Christmas when they're dirt cheap. Get some red and white strings and put them under the skirting on the head table, the gift %26amp; cake tables. But mostly use white. Set some bails of hay around the perimeter of the hall with (freshly washed) old ragrugs over them for guests to sit on. That's nice to do if you do the entire reception outside, too... when you don't want to have to rent chairs. One bail of hay seats two people. Also, borrow some old kerosene lanterns to put on the tables. That will add a nice old country-charm to the place... just used nicely scented oil instead of real kerosene. Also, as someone else already mentioned, go get some small votive candles and decorate the glass holder with some ribbon and put one at each place setting, then dim the lights. It look very cool when it gets dark ... they also serve as the party favor for your guests to take with them when they leave. (use a white candle though... the red would be just too much.

Hope this gives you a place to start. Just remember... you're really the focus of the day. They may forget your tablescape, but they'll always remember your happy, smiling face.

Best wishes...
Reply:ooooo.....June 14, that's the day I was planning on hunting chunky brides on my old 1800's replica farm. Oh well, I'll just have to do both I guess!
Reply:Nice place for a wedding. Sounds very pretty. Here is what I did for a shower I threw. I wanted to make centerpieces plus favors, but I like to make useful favors. SO, I came up with the idea of flower pens. But some silk flowers (or whatever your budget will allow) and cut the stems about two inches from the bulb. Get some Bic pens and toss the caps. Use green floral tape (from Wal Mart) and attach the flower to the pen, winding the tape all the way down the pen like a stem. Bunch up the flower pens and put them in vases with marbles. After the party, everyone pick a "favor", and you don't waster your centerpieces!!!
Reply:you don't want any thing to high, people can't see others across from them. flowers are great but, can get expensive and white can brown. a cute idea is go to dollar stores, antique stores, estate sales whatnot and find cheap, small, silver picture frames. get a calligrapher to write different quotes; from movies, books, poems, songs, etc..... in the center run beads, a mix of silver and clear along the table with white candle groupings in different heights. if you wanted to do a small bouquet of roses every so often to give a splash of color that would be wonderful.
Reply:some candelaberas will look beautiful and suit your theme. with fresh flowers matching your bouquet or just white roses with a ribbon match the b/maides dresses and ivy aroung the candelaberas. it will look lovely
Reply:you will want long centerpieces or larger ones and mini ones inbetween you really dont want the table to look bare here are some ideas that you can do yourself or bring to someone to make for you

Reply:you can always go with this classy look:

different size glass vases (square) with flowers cut short so you hardly see the stem...white tea lights scattered all over the table

google images of different styles..and have fun
Reply:what about petals scattered down the middle of the tables with different sizes of candles spread through them.
Reply:If it were me (and I am by no means extravagant or fancy), I would gather up a bunch of old canning jars, fill them with water, and add wild flowers. You could also use old silver candelabras....a mix of flash and country!
