Do you think its weird to have teapots as center pieces on all the tables at my wedding reception? BE HONEST?

I've got four months to plan my wedding (YIKES!!!!) so Mom is helping me. My fiancee is English (most people don't know because he came to USA at age 15 and worked hard to erase his accent) and I've always been a girlie girl who loves teacups and tea pots, so Mom suggested having them as center pieces at the reception.

Is that weird? Should people take the pots home? Should the teapots match? Should I put flowers in them? Tea baggies? Leave them empty? Also, where can I buy at least 12 teapots for cheap?

Do you think its weird to have teapots as center pieces on all the tables at my wedding reception? BE HONEST?
I think it's a very cute idea. I would put flowers in them that way it would match. You can always go on ebay and see if you can get some cheap teapots that match.
Reply:My sister did teapots as a centerpiece with flowers in it and the favors were teacups...very nice idea !
Reply:Honestly I think it's a cute idea. Not weird at all.
Reply:I LOVE high tea, teapots, teacups, and that whole scene so I think the idea is fabulous! (might have to steal it myself) not weird at all!

I think you should put flowers in them, but nothing over the top, something that lookes like a garden picked posie would be nice and keeping with the theme.

The guests should take them unless you want 12 or more tea pots around the house. They don't have to match, but it might be easier to get a cheaper price if you buy new ones in bulk somewhere.

As for buying them cheap...

Here is one for $12 that comes in 4 colours http://shopstashtea.com/800344.html

(For the other colours look here: http://shopstashtea.com/teapots-teapots.... )

These are my favourites under $30

Also try ebay for second hand ones and discount stores are teapots are 'in' at the moment.
Reply:Teapots would be the perfect centerpiece if you were going for a Victorian-themed garden party reception.

I think the idea would work better if you used several types and colors of teapots instead of having all the same. You could put flowers in them, that would look very nice. You can definitely find decorative teapots for cheap (but be forewarned that the functional quality won't be very good - they're better for decoration).
Reply:Hey, if teapots are your thing yes sounds like a

quaint idea!! If pots are decorative leave empty, but

if plain dress up with flowers!

Nice idea!

Either give them to your bridal party or have DJ announce

that person at table w/birthday closest to wedding day

gets to take teapot home!
Reply:I think it's a super cute idea. you can give them away at the end of the reception as is usually done- whoever's bday at each table is closest to your wedding date gets to take it home. fill it with an assortment of tea bags, no flowers.
Reply:it is your reception decorations should be what you want
Reply:We are all different and if everyone just LOVED your ideas all the time, I would doubt their sincerity. I don’t find teapots intriguing, but that is ME. I think it’s lovely though that you like them. It seems innocent, sweet, girlie. You know, like when [some] little girls would play tea party? So anyway, if you’re trying to feel out what other people will think, it may keep you from doing what is something authentic to you. I think being true is better than being applauded. You seem to be having the opinions of others in mind over your own, otherwise you would just use the teapots without any second-guessing because you have "always been a girlie girl who loves teacups and tea pots". They are obviously your “cup of tea”, but you seem self-conscious about it. It is yours and your fiancés wedding, so I would suggest representing your personalities and not concern yourself too much with what other people will think is odd. After all, your personality is just as important as anyone else’s and you should celebrate it!! Best wishes!!!
Reply:I would put flowers in them - Maybe you could do a Mad Hatter them or something to go with that. I've seen a lot weirder stuff, so no it's not so strange at all - might go nice with a garden look too.
Reply:It could work if it were an afternoon wedding, garden party, type thing, but if it's in the evening at a restaurant or banquet hall or something, I think it would seem odd. I think it would probably work better for a shower than a wedding.
Reply:I think teapots would look really pretty on your tables. You could fill them with flowers in your wedding colors. They wouldn't have to match. If there are any Thrift Stores (Goodwill or Salvation Army), try to find them there. Those stores usually have teapots and they're super cheap. I think that's a really great and original idea. You could also buy some teacups and put votive candles in them to add to the decor. Good luck. I'd love to see some pictures if you do go with this unique idea for your wedding!

Also, if you bought the teapots or teacups cheap enough, you wouldn't have to worry if some of your guests took some home with them. If there are any yard sales or garage sales in your area, you might want to check out those too.
Reply:I find it a lil wierd cuz im a guy prob... but hey if it looks nice why not
Reply:i like the tea pot idea, i think they should all be different and that you should put some flowers in them and maybe have a tea bag tag hanging out with your names on them..

if you can find tea cups cheap maybe you could use them as your favors. at the very least use some sort of nice tea and maybe some scones as favors.

you could kind of make your whole theme english tea party, it could be cute and fun.

check out flea markets and antique stores for teapots, keep an eye out for reduced racks. they make teapots in all kinds of shapes and colors so you can find just about anything you want.
Reply:Teapots can be elegant and look nice even though they aren't what are considered "usual" centerpieces. My mom collects teapots and has many. I don't think they have to look the same and actually think different ones for each table is a good idea. Just make sure you find quality teapots. There are a lot of cheap ones out there and they look cheap. When it comes to things like this, cheap looks cheap. Since my mom collects them I've seen the difference in quality and how much that can cost (she gets all her teapots new though). Some of her most beautiful teapots cost hundreds of dollars. To save money try looking on ebay or at flea markets. Second hand stores might have something for you and ebay certainly will have something. Look for the ones you like and hopefully you'll find a deal. I considered using teapots as centerpieces. We had considered having a tea in the afternoon for our reception before changing our plans. If you like them then use them. They don't have to be filled with flowers unless you want that. Maybe have a small vase of flowers beside them.
Reply:I think the teapots would be cool. It's something different AND it's topical (since I read about you and your fiancee) I think if you put maybe some flowers in them or something pretty in them would be nice!

=]
Reply:Since you want honesty, my opinion is that is a little weird. Why not a simply flower arrangement or candles? I just don't really find tea pots romantic or associate them at all with a wedding. Just my opinion though. If they are you're thing then go for it!
Reply:I think teapots and teacups would be a cute idea. Especially since these are collectibles. I believe flowers in the pots would be nice. Candles in the cups is a good idea. I don't know why teapots and teacups couldn't be associated with a wedding, when once married, they could be very likely be associated to a marriage.
Reply:Is it weird? No. Will everyone appreciate it, no. I have the feeling that most women will think its cute while the men wouldnt really care less. Maybe do it for your bridal shower instead?
Reply:I think it would be very whimsical, maybe you could even have teacups with small flowers in them. And lots of candles around. I think the key here is that since its an unusual centerpiece, that not everything has to match...

You could put flowers in them...or even hot tea?

some inspiration
Reply:I would have them all match and put flowers in them. Real flowers would be nice.
Reply:I think it could be a unique and fun centerpiece. It will depend a lot on the style of wedding you are having and whether or not you can find pots that will compliment the colors and style. If teapots are too expensive, tea cups can be adorable too. Check a floral supply house, I've sent some lovely flower arrangements to my m-i-l that were in teapots. Let the guests take them home if they'd like, as long as you get the center table one for your memories.
Reply:I like the teapot idea, 100% better than the Betta in a Bowl centrepiece.
